Matt's Fundraising Journey...

“Before Think Pacific I genuinely thought the idea of fundraising would be a piece of cake, I was wrong! I have so far managed to raise over £1000 from a number of different ideas I have planned and executed while studying in my final year at Liverpool John Moores University.

These ideas have included a half marathon and the liverpool 10k. Also a pub quiz night was another really good way to raise money through fees for quiz entries and a raffle. Although, the fundraising has not been an easy task, it has been an amazing challenge that I’m glad I decided to undertake. It also makes you realise what wonderful friends you have that help contribute to sharing your story and donating their time to help with events!

Now I have raised my fee – I can’t wait to depart fro Fiji next month, meet my fellow team mates and begin the project.”

Will’s Cycling Challenge..

“I raised my full project fee through fundraising alone, the biggest success being a cycle challenge I organised from the Principality Stadium in Cardiff to to Twickenham Stadium which took 2 and a half days! I planned the whole event myself and received lots of support form friends and family, some of whom also ran alongside at different stages of the route with buckets to we could collect more donations. Big thanks to my mum especially for sharing the page constantly to all her friends, family and colleagues!”

Tabitha Inspires Her Colleagues..

“To save up for my project I worked at a Solicitors firm, Pinsent Masons to fund the flight and gain some great work experience as my ambition is to study law..

After meeting Simon from TP, he suggested I wrote to the company partners and ask if I could present to them about the project and what it will achieve. I researched Fiji and the biggest thing that struck me was the lack of school resources and opportunity the children have, especially the lack of girls receiving further education. The firm and my colleagues really got behind me and my passion to help.

I organised sponsored activities at work including cake sales and a 10k run too. I exceeded the fundraising total and donated extra to the charity to provide even more resources to the children in Fiji. It was a rewarding feeling knowing I’d worked so hard to get here and ensured I made the most of each day.”

Rob Raised £700 in 30 Days

“I raised over £700 in under 30 days by completing a personal triathlon with my very unfit dad! (Rowing machine, 10KM run and a cycle from Scarborough to Harrogate). Posting daily updates on social media was the key to getting the word out and maximising donations to my page.”

Great North Run Fundraising

“The Great North Run is something I have completed a few times, but this time was special as I was fundraising for Think Pacific. The run was on the 9th September and after a summer filled with BBQs, holidays and beer, it’s pretty fair to say I wasn’t that prepared for it really. I had done a few 5km runs, but seeing as the Great North Run itself is 21km (13.1 Miles), I knew it would be a big challenge. Fundraising went really well and my friends and family were very generous when they knew it was going to such a good cause in Think Pacific. Even some of my friends who I volunteered with on project sponsored me. The day of the run was a little nervy but very exciting too. The forecast was for cloudy, cool weather but it felt more like Fijian weather and was very warm and humid for a September Sunday in the Toon! As I ran over the Tyne Bridge and the Red Arrows flew over, my excitement levels raised and I began to enjoy the run. Maybe I enjoyed it a bit too much as after about 6 miles or so, I was in complete pain and could not wait for the run to be over and for me to be sipping on a beer in a pub in South Shields. After another agonising 6 miles, I crossed the finish line with a time of 1:58 and was pretty proud of myself. I was also really proud as I raised £250 for Think Pacific and I knew from my experiences of project, what that sum of money could achieve in Fiji.

To have the opportunity to challenge myself but to also raise awareness and money for Think Pacific was fantastic. Like I said, Think Pacific will always have a special place in my heart for all the amazing experiences it provided me and showed me how brilliant the Fijian people and culture are. I hope the money I raised will help others have these great experiences and to help those Fijian people.”
