Physical Disabilities
Your safety on a program with us is of utmost importance to us. Ensuring that you are safe whilst completing the program activities is something that we take very seriously. Please ensure that you have read and understand the information below and complete a health form and return this to the team for their awareness.
Our projects are generally not particularly physically demanding but a good level of fitness is needed to get around the village, participate in sport and to be able to partake in weekend activities/explorations.
Fiji is a diverse country, with differing levels of infrastructure throughout the cities, villages and resorts that we use during projects.
For those joining a program with a village immersion element, it is important to note that you will need to be steady on your feet due to paths being uneven or there being no formal path to walk through. In most villages you will be required to walk up and down hills, this may be from one point to another in the village or during weekend activities. Most houses will have steps to access the home, with bathrooms and kitchens being in external buildings from the main home.
Please select the tabs below to find out more information about the process’ Think Pacific follow.
After informing Think Pacific of your Physical Disability, we log this information internally to share with the relevant team members in country. This information is then shared with our team to start the process of informing the resorts, hotels, and houses that you will be living in.

Ultimate Fiji
Alongside the points above for during your time in the village as part of your program itinerary. The team will also…
- Share information with the Think Pacific House Staff in Suva, where you will be spending time.
- Sharing with the island resorts.
Think Pacific will do as much as we can to support you whilst on project and to make your transition into the community smooth. Please be aware that this is still your allergy and to continue to be vigilant to keep yourself safe.
If you have scoliosis, please ensure that this is noted on your Booking Form and your pre-departure form. We have had many participants join us with Scoliosis that have thrived in the village.
Things to think about:
- Fijian culture is predominantly conducted on the floor, they do not sit at tables, chairs or sofas in the same way that we may at home.
- This means sitting cross legged on the floor. Past participants have bought additional padding in the form of pillows, yoga seats etc to support themselves with this.
- The village is for the most part back to basics, this means that mattress’ are generally on the floor. If you have noted that you have scoliosis we will try to house in a home with a better bed for comfort of sleeping. (Some participants have also bought an additional foam mattress during their shopping day to help with this).
- Sports and Physical Activity: Playing sports is optional in the village. Please make your leaders aware of your physical abilities and how much you are able to do.
Being prepared for Fiji is vital, if you think that the team should have further information about your health background before you join project. Please see and download the forms below and send them back to your Program Coordinator!
