Welcome to the module on Global Awareness. If you are reading this, you are joining a Think Pacific program… and because you are, we believe it is incredibly important that you engage with this module. Many international development efforts, especially those within the realms of ‘voluntourism,’ may perpetuate unjust power dynamics that potentially smother legitimate delivery objectives, opportunity for genuine sustainable impact and damage a society on multiple levels. This module highlights the ways in which some of these come about, as well as encouraging an awareness surrounding the steps to take in order to conduct international projects in a way that we believe to be ethical and effective.
Within this module of your Global Skills preparation, you will encounter concepts and contexts that are incredibly important to appreciate before undertaking any international work. This awareness allows you to develop into a sensitive, well rounded, and ethical global citizen… understanding global narratives and your own place in the international sphere.
