You will actively learn and support initiatives set out by the Ministry of Health to address mental health and wellbeing in the Fiji Islands.

This component of project is deeply rewarding and will include a range of activities to help increase mindfulness and emotional wellbeing in Fiji.

Globally, 1 in 4 people are impacted by mental health illnesses in their lives, making it one of the leading causes for ill health. With Fiji ranked one of the highest in the world for mental health problems, it is one of the biggest challenges facing Fiji – source.

The World Health Organisation states that stigma, discrimination and neglect have led to mental health becoming such a global issue.

This is your chance to help support fantastic initiatives and help transform Fiji’s perception of wellbeing, mental health and overall emotional wellness.

Promoting Mindfulness and Mental Wellbeing

Fiji may be famous for its big smiles and laughter… but mental health illnesses can affect anyone.

We’re here to create an openness around discussions of mental health and help encourage activities that promote mindfulness and mental wellbeing.

Our projects empower Fijian communities to take their mental health seriously and encourage those who need it, to seek help.

We are here to tackle the stigma, discrimination and neglect around mental health – replacing this with openness, transparency and support.

Increasing Awareness

You will embark on mental health awareness campaigns, designed to create more transparency and understanding around mental health illnesses.

By giving mental health more attention and priority within communities, it can help ensure support is given to those in need.

Working with local Government partners and the Ministry of Health, our programs will have a lasting impact on Fiji’s mental wellbeing.

Wellbeing Activities and Exercises

We appreciate mental health requires professional care so you won’t be directly treating or diagnosing mental health. Instead, volunteers are there to increase awareness and encourage healthier activities that are proven to have a positive impact on mental health.

These activities will be established alongside the Ministry of Health to provide more support, particularly to rural communities. You will help promote inclusion towards anyone suffering from mental health problems.

This is an opportunity for cross-cultural learning to help address a growing global challenge. Your enthusiasm and passion can help increase awareness and the implementation of mental health campaigns.

How Can You Support Mental Health in Fiji?
In partnership with the Ministry of Health, you will help support aims set out by the Fiji's National Development Goals.

You will learn and discuss the challenges facing mental health in the South Pacific. This will follow by learning how to implement awareness campaigns and activities to promote wellbeing.


You will collaborate with local youth groups and the Ministry of Health to achieve project aims. This will be focused on creating openness and transparency around discussions of mental health, as well as implementing and reviewing community activities.


Empower local communities by helping break down the stigma and neglect surrounding mental health. Use your passion and energy to make a difference.

The Type of Activities Involved
Physical Activity

Participate in group activities and exercises, designed to encourage wellness and wellbeing. Bring your enthusiasm and any of your own ideas with you.


Meditation is proven to have a positive impact on mental health. Help support meditation classes for youth and women groups.

Art and Creativity

Help people express themselves with fun art and creativity workshops. You don’t need to be good at art, just lots of energy and enthusiasm.

Women's Group

Help facilitate local women’s groups to help create structure and openness around women’s health and wellbeing.
